Advanced equine care

Optimisation of sports performance

At EquiSportMedWe specialise in providing advanced, customised solutions to optimise the sporting performance of horses. Our approach combines experience, state-of-the-art technology and expert collaboration to ensure the well-being and longevity of your equine.

The most common causes of lameness in horses are tendon and ligament injuries (demopathies, tendinopathies), joint pathologies (synovitis, osteoarthritis), hoof disorders (navicular disease, chronic laminitis) and spinal problems. A correct diagnosis is the basis of any treatment: this is why our protocol combines systematic clinical evaluation with the most appropriate imaging tests for each case.

When should I call the vet?

Consult an equine veterinarian if your horse exhibits obvious lameness on the move or at rest, hoof or limb asymmetry, unexplained reduction in performance, heat, pain or swelling in any area of the limbs, behavioural changes during work or unusual resistance. Early intervention improves prognosis and reduces recovery times.

Treatment and rehabilitation of lameness

Lameness is one of the main causes of premature interruption in the sporting life of horses. At EquiSportMed, we carry out a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment protocol which includes:

Full clinical evaluation

We identify the underlying cause through physical inspection and detailed anamnesis.

Advanced Diagnostic Imaging

We carry out diagnostic tests such as scintigraphy, magnetic resonance imaging, among others, in collaboration with equine veterinary hospitals.

Specialised treatments

Regenerative therapies

In recent years, regenerative therapies have revolutionised equine medicine, allowing for faster and more effective recovery from injuries. At EquiSportMed, we offer:

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)Promotes regeneration of soft tissues and joints.
Stem cellsIdeal for complex cases of tissue damage.
Irap-Orthokine and other innovative solutions adapted to each case.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) involves obtaining a blood sample from the horse itself, processing it to concentrate the growth factors and re-injecting it into the injured area to stimulate tissue repair. Mesenchymal stem cells are obtained mainly from bone marrow or adipose tissue and are particularly useful in tendon injuries such as superficial digital flexor tendons. These therapies are not mutually exclusive: in many cases they are combined with conventional drug treatment and physiotherapy to maximise recovery.

Decreased sporting performance

Detecting and treating reduced sporting performance is key to preventing serious injury and optimising the health of the horse. Our approach includes:

Comprehensive diagnosisWe assess the locomotor, cardiovascular and respiratory systems to detect any underlying problems.
Preparation for competitionsWe design a personalised plan together with the rider and trainer to ensure the best performance at events.
Continuous monitoringWe monitor the horse's progress to adjust treatments and prevent relapses.
